Fifteen minutes

Have you ever thought what you can make in 15 minutes?


I was getting ready this morning, knowing that Raja was joining us for breakfast, when I heard the front door open and realized he was here….


And breakfast was not ready.


Fact was, it wasn’t even started.


Funny thing is, I knew he was coming, but I was expecting a text from him to confirm that he was on his way as today was not a “normal” day for him to be here. Mentally, I knew what I was making for breakfast and Mr. Wang had already pulled the fruit out of the fridge.


So, I made what I call a simple breakfast – toast, sunny side up eggs, served with fruit. For Raja, in his childhood home, this would have been a Fancy Breakfast. For me, growing up, it was always toast for Sunday breakfast. The rest of the week was cereal and milk.


Yet, toast served on elegant dishes seems to taste different. I could have pulled the dishwasher friendly dishes and cutlery and thrown it together. But I took my time to prep the fruit and arrange it, while watching the eggs so they would still have a soft yolk.


Time and intent. Small choices that added up to yet another breakfast that the three of us would happily savour again.
